Sorry for not answering so long, and I'm not sure what your point is.
I think that the ancient Jews did deal with philosophy (although it's a Greek word), because it's a human activity, and the Jews surely had a lot of questions about God and the cosmos. The difference between Jews and Greeks was that they haven't put these teaching to writing (probably because of the ban), so we get an inkling of them through the stories of the Tanach.
I don't think the author was "trying to fit biblical thinking to a Greek philosophical framework". However, today we all think a little "greek" so he used the word "elements". so what?

I assume that the "עיונים במשנה תורה להרמב"ם: ספר המדע" are on the ybt.org site -I'll take a look.
